A Day in the Life of a Delegate

As Boys & Girls State delegates wrap up their second day at Sacramento State, most citizens have adapted their day-to-day lives around the program. Delegates have the program schedule ready to go on their phone, they know their way around the campus, and many have met friends to spend time with. While the typical day of each delegate differs from person to person, Evan Potwora's day encompasses the average experience.

Potwora resides in Cenoz County, meaning he was assigned breakfast at 7:30 a.m. this Sunday. The menu included the usual cereal, fruit, and toast, as well as biscuits and gravy. After breakfast, Potwora made his way to his city meeting in Klamath Hall and then to his county meeting.

After a short recreational time and another city meeting, Potwora had made it to lunch at his assigned 12:30 p.m. time. 

Potwora commented that his favorite food of the day was the snickerdoodle cookies! As for the other food, Potwora has been sticking to the classic chicken nuggets and fries due to fear of other suspicious meats. 

A few tips he has are to stay away from the toaster: it takes too long and will end up burning the bread. There are two tabs for water: one sparkling and one tap. Don’t get the sparkling.

Following another city and county meeting, Potwora had another break. He mentioned that he enjoys sitting in the grass during these recreational periods.

Potwora said, “I love to meet lots of people while I get fresh air.”

Later that evening, Potwora attended his first party meeting. The goal of the party meeting was to elect a party chairman or woman and a secretary. Potwora especially liked this part of his day because he had fun seeing the party come together and took pride in it. He noted that hearing everybody’s speeches and different approaches was interesting because they had their own ways of pumping up the audience.

Potwora’s successful second day at Boys & Girls State was just one of the countless stories of many delegates. While we got a special glimpse into his schedule, he represents all of us here at Sacramento State.
