While CBGS has only just begun, the Starbucks cart located at the Dining Commons Lawn has seen immense popularity among delegates from all cities and counties alike. The cart opens around breakfast and closes before dinner, allowing delegates to satisfy caffeine urges throughout their busy days. Many delegates have found the cart to be extremely exciting or even comforting, like Gabriela Dyogi (Gummersheimer), who mentioned, “it felt familiar in a new environment.”
Delegates’ go-to drinks range from caffeinated, espresso-based drinks like caramel macchiatos to fun refreshers like the mango dragon fruit beverage–but a common theme amongst all has been getting iced or cold drinks to help beat the Sacramento heat. Dyogi came from Pacifica, a Northern coastal city, and continued, “I’m used to the weather being like 60 to 70 degrees all the time, even during the summer, so coming here took a bit of adjusting to.” Though, for some, the temperature change is nothing new, “Right now, [where I live], it’s going to be around 100 degrees,” mentioned Sehajpreet Thiara (Beard) an Orland resident.
As positive as the Starbucks drink reception has been, many have raised concerns, primarily about extremely long wait times. Madelyn Trull (Beard) noted, “[The line] is usually like super long, especially during breakfast. I don't know if there's a correlation with that and the quality of breakfast. But overall, I notice that during times when people are in the dining hall, later in the day, it's super empty.” Trull continued, “I went when everyone was at lunch so there was no line and it was nice.”
Despite long lines and the fact that the Dining Commons cart is unlikely to have sold 600 daily drinks like normal Starbucks’ buildings, the cart has still persisted in its popularity, most likely due to Starbucks’ established popularity.
