What are the overall feelings about Senate and Assembly? How are People Feeling About the Elections?

As day two unfolds at Boys and Girls State, excitement is ramping up in both the Senate and Assembly races. Delegates are strategizing, making speeches, and networking across counties. Some feel optimistic, others overwhelmed—but everyone agrees: this is where leadership is forged. At this point in time, city elections have already been put in place, city officials have been sworn in, and county elections are being finalized. At the legislative level, elections for Senate and the Assembly are intensifying. Cenoz County resident Maddon Sorenson from Sacramento has decided to run for Assembly. Sorenson stated, “My dad’s a lawyer and so I want to make the laws and make things fun here.” It is clear that many candidates come from a unique set of backgrounds.

Across the program, candidates are beginning to define themselves—some as policy “trolls,” others as coalition-builders, and a few as passionate voices for overlooked issues. The campaign trail is fast-paced and often unpredictable, with alliances forming over shared visions or simple proximity. Many delegates have expressed that the short timeline makes it difficult to stand out, but others are energized by the challenge. Creative speeches are being deployed in every corner of the campus and campaign messages are being sent in group chats across the Boys and Girls State app.

While some candidates are leaning into serious reform proposals, others are focused on representation and inclusion, ensuring all voices in their mock districts are heard. Although the Whig election for Party Chair and Party Secretary got heated, there is little development concerning the Senate and Assembly at the state level. However, Senate races have become increasingly strategic, with candidates discussing mock committee assignments and policy priorities as early as breakfast. For many, this election is their first experience with campaigning—and their first realization of how complicated leadership can be. The intensity may be simulated, but the effort and passion are very real. As ballots draw closer, every handshake, speech, and hallway conversation could make the difference.

Get to Know your Senators, Assembly and the Federal Party!

Fun Facts about the Senate and Assembly candidates: Did you know that one of the candidates has 7 cats, but what's even crazier is that someone has up to 21 cats! Many of the candidates are full of unique and interesting talents. One of the most intriguing ones being eating a chicken bake in just 3 bites. Many of the candidates have a strong passion in debating, varying from debate clubs or as far as making it into Nationals, providing a strong foundation and support during the beginning of the Federal Party. An utmost majority, if not all of the counties in the Federal Party, granted mass amounts of support for the widely favored and supported  party chair candidate Josepher Warner, also known as “Joe Mama”. His election won the hearts of many and, after declaring the strong desire to dominate the electoral field against the Whigs, led with strong morals and foundations regarding honesty and trust. He proved to be a strong leader who supported the peoples’ morals and ideals and created a patriotic feeling reaching the hearts of many Federalists. Although there were many sophisticated and strong candidates going for Party Chair, Joe Mama stood out as a person who has a driving force with meticulous thinking and persistence to prove his goals are more than just words spoken.

Throughout the assembly the morals and esteem of the Federalist Party reached an utmost high with huge amounts of pride and patriotism, being indefinitely clear about defeating and standing their ground against the Whig Party. Varying from positions of Party chair, treasurer, clerk, and secretary, the candidates never failed to represent the ideals of the people, filling the room with chants, claps, and clear excitement throughout every candidate's speech. Federalist members brought lots of excitement and support for every brave candidate taking up the stage to present themselves.
