Last night, after a flurry of speeches from impassioned delegates, the Whig Party selected Ibrahim Barry and Hunter Freitas to serve as their party’s chairman and secretary. The selections of both positions were made via a “caucus vote” wherein the candidates stood on opposite sides of the dining commons lawn and delegates grouped with their preferred candidate.

In their speeches, Barry said he wanted this year’s class of Whigs to be remembered as “generational” by future Boys and Girls State delegates, and Freitas acknowledged the need for every candidate to be supported by the party.

Other candidates for party chair included Audrey Huang, Lucas Liu and Daniel Zhang, and other party secretary candidates included Alexander Castanda and Sarah Serrano.

Now, it will be Chairman Barry and Secretary Freitas’ job to supplement Whig victory later this week.
