Boys & Girls State is comprised of the best students from schools across California. While they are all smart, each delegate has a unique pathway they intend on following in the years to come. In the city of Chambers, the treasurer, mayor, and city attorney are great examples of how most delegates’ position they earn at Boys & Girls State is representative of their desired career path.
One of these bright futures is hoped for by Monish Kaushal, the Chambers City Treasurer. After graduating high school, Kaushal plans on “attending either Cal Poly SLO, UCLA, or UC Berkeley” to major in business with a concentration in finance. These aspirations make Kaushal the perfect treasurer for his city because they display his interest in handling money. He plans on using his major to go into “corporate finance or financial business with technology.” To reach these goals, Kaushal hopes his connections with friends at Apple and other companies will get him internships and eventually higher positions. If this does not work out, he is prepared to work hard for other opportunities with the resources available.
Chambers’ Mayor Sydney Choi also demonstrated her passions for her career ahead. She plans on attending West Point Military Academy to “eventually commission into the Army Medical Department.” Her leadership as city mayor is a reflection of her organization and dedication that she will take with her to the military. To stay accountable, Choi plans on focusing on “balancing her academics and athletics, prioritizing selfless service, and leading various teams.”
Aidan Hogan, Chambers’ City Attorney, has big dreams to transfer to a four-year college such as University of the Pacific or UC Berkeley. He wants to attend these schools to help him become a business lawyer, which explains his running for city attorney. In order to get background and experience in the field, Hogan plans on “shadow[ing] a public defender within [his] city of Modesto.” The other various skills necessary for being a lawyer are introduced to Hogan through his membership in speech and debate.
Even though Boys & Girls State is a political science and citizenship based program, the officials from Chambers prove that delegates are well-rounded students who each have individual hopes for their next steps in life. While some are focused on money and others on justice, Boys & Girls State will without a doubt contribute to each delegate’s future successes.
